Stan Lee’s Los Angeles (LA) Comic Con returned to the Convention Center with a star-studded lineup of guests. Attendees were welcomed to a weekend celebrating comic- books, television and other fandoms from Friday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 28.

By upping the ante on all aspects of the three-day convention, this year’s expo marked its largest. Friday was the preview day for attendees to purchase items at the convention, such as the popular Funko Pop! Collectible figures that were made exclusively for purchase at LA Comic Con. Popular panels were also featured on opening day at the Hot Topic stage, setting the mood for all the festivities that will be coming ahead for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday was a full house for the Convention Center where they hosted some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. The programming for Saturday started with a double dose of reunions for two popular TV shows, which featured the cast of Jimmy Neutron to share their most memorable moments.

Guest of Honor, Jack Black and Kyle Gass, shared their journey in the entertainment business leading up to creating their own band that has grown to extreme popularity, “Tenacious D”.

Other panels and activities featured a variety of fan favorites. Specifically a panel featuring Marvel’s Agents of Shield, Marvel’s The Runaways, the cast of Steven Universe, and a screening of the film “Mandy” that featured producer Elijah Wood for the panel.

The Cosplay National Championship ended the big show on Sunday with a bang by allowing guests in cosplay of all ages and experience levels to showcase their work to those in attendance. From tiny tots to experienced cosplayers of many years, the costumes featured wowed the crowd from start to finish with an intermission with a Joker themed rap performance before awarding the $20,000 prize pool to the winners of each category.

Guests were also treated to having the opportunity to meet some of their favorite starts by offering autographs and photo opportunities with celebrities such as Danny Trejo, Rob Liefeld, members of the Power Rangers, and many others.

Sunday featured an array of panels and events, voices of popular video game “Overwatch” was one to be highlighted for the books which offered insight for what it is like to be a member of the voice acting team as well as giving advice to those who are interested in getting into the industry during their Q&A session.

Jonathan Lopez, who has been attending Los Angeles Comic Con since its inception, was one of many attendees that found this year as the best year the convention so far.

“It’s the best convention that Los Angeles has” said Lopez “It’s something I look forward to every year and I cannot stress enough on how much everyone should experience this convention.”

Los Angeles Comic Con has been a staple to the city for a while but enough to be recognized by the city as it brings forth comics and pop culture to those who enjoy it every October. LA Comic Con is set to return next October at an earlier date than the usual last week of month, mainly landing on Halloween, with it taking place at the convention center from Friday October 11th to Sunday October 13th.
